Quote for today comes from the book, The Map: Finding the Magic and Meaning in the Story of your Life
I like this quote because it sort of explains / summarizes the concept of the landscapes in which we travel. Clicking here will take you to the review of this book.
Once awakened to your inner landscape, you’ll be able to consciously shape your worlds by altering that landscape within, rather than focusing on your external reality. Having caused the dark clouds within to depart, you;ll discover that your inner sense of safety and calm is now mirrored in your outer circumstances. You’ll also start to see the events in your life as part of a larger picture. This is when you find the real magic and meaning in the story of your life – and the bravery, strength, and wisdom to make empowered choices – p xxvii. The Map
I really dig the language of this book. The metaphors just ring true.

Yup, the it’s really like reading a fairy tale book…I may try to actually read the whole book through when I have the time..hehe.

What beautiful prose, I rather prefer it to simply saying focus on yourself before trying to fix the world as it seamlessly melds that advice with the reasoning behind it. Tres bien.

I was just wondering if “shaping your words” was in the original quote really? Not “worlds”? It would be interesting both ways.

It’s a lovely wise quote. I find the more I live in my heart, instead of my head, the more grace and healing I find.

The Map is drawing me in ever deeper Shree 🙂 and especially these words “Having caused the dark clouds within to depart, you;ll discover that your inner sense of safety and calm is now mirrored in your outer circumstances” So true once we understand and can let go of fear which often grips us within the dark clouds of thought… We really do begin to feel calmer for we see we often only hurt ourselves with our inner thinking… Big smiles as my outer world becomes ever brighter as I keep letting go of that which I no longer need.. 🙂

That’s so cool to hear, Sue. I can see it, I can conceptualise it…as my sister says I’m “mega mind” in a good way..lol.
I’m learning to practice it and apply it to my life too. Sometimes it feels so strange and there is this little Goblin which pouts and says “But it’s so BORING!”..haha.
When he does that I try my best not to roll my eyes and instead tell that part of me to embrace that awesome peacefulness and that it’s NOT boring!

Hey Peter 🙂
No worries. Firstly there was a little typo in the Quote…”Once awakened to your inner landscape, you’ll be able to consciously shape your worlds by altering that landscape within…” it was meant to be worlds not words.
The reason I chose this paragraph from the book was because what I get from reading it is that when we view our different situations, relationships, where we are at any point in our lives, essentially our own world made up of different landscapes, with a set of new eyes or different perception, then it doesn’t seem so dark and desolate. The sun comes out and you can see the good in that experience. The other thing which changes is as we change the way we perceive things, bringing a lightness into ourselves our environment…the people we hang out with, the people we attract, situations around us…it tends to change too! That’s the magic in life! That’s why we are true creators and magicians…it’s just like what the phrase says ” Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”!
Hope that helped!! 🙂

Yes, I do think that’s true. There’s that philosophy that you live up to what you believe about yourself. So if you see yourself as a success, you’ll act and do things to make that come to pass. And you should surround yourself with people who help you achieve what you want, not people who are a negative influence on you.
