YouTube confessions

Oh the things we (I) do for blog posts…

In today’s installment of all things Shree, we have another confessional!

Totally enticing, I know (not really).

So, I’m 45 …years…old. I’m done with the school studies. I’m done with the college studies. I’m done with the university studies.

Did I enjoy them? No, not particularly. I had good intentions. Really. I’d tell myself, you need to start early, so you can remember stuff. You shouldn’t do the last minute studying! It’s not good! It’s really, really…not good.

And there was a reason why it wasn’t good. See, I could “ace” an exam with last minute panicked dumping of all information needed to pass an exam. However (and this is a true experience), I’ve walked out of an exam after regurgitation of said information without:

  1. Remembering what the questions were.
  2. Being able to recall any of the information that was regurgitated.

If I had to re-sit the exam all over again, my mind would have just stared and blinked stupidly at me.

So, can someone explain to me why I love watching YouTube videos of students in college or school, especially those that do “study videos”?

No?

Well, don’t feel too bad, because I honestly have no idea either..except…

  1. Most of the videos I watch are done very aesthetically.
  2. Two of these YouTubers that happen to be my favourite have such calming voices.
  3. The music that they (the above two mentioned) choose as background music is also quite relaxing.
  4. Their handwriting is really pretty.
  5. They also make really pretty school notes.
  6. They use stationery.

And anyone who knows me know…I. FREAKING. LOVE. STATIONERY.

If you own a stationery shop..or an art shop..but more, if it’s a stationery shop you’ll have an automatic best friend in me πŸ˜€

One of the dreams I play around with is to own a stationery shop.

I could live in a stationery shop. Even better if it is a bookshop WITH loads of stationery. Even better if it has art supplies in it too!

I took some screenshots of the types of videos I like to watch…it’s like…stationery porn? hehe..sigh..

Sigh..why is it that when I look at this I think it’s so..cool and just, you know? Like, how come I didn’t create notes like these!! Or have nice handwriting? Or something… (from Mariana’s Study Corner)

Dies and goes to stationery heaven. Some of the random videos I love to watch are those who do bullet journals. This one is by AmandaRachLee. Click image to go to her channel.

There’s another type of video that I love to watch. YouTubers who create bullet journals. The art is so pretty. The stationery…yea, you get the drift.

Oh and since we are on a roll with confessions of the YouTube kind…I also at times enjoy watching dorm room tours, room tours, office room tours, bedroom tours, apartment tours, study table tours…yea..I think it’s for the way a place is decorated? Sometimes I go..ooo nice idea. Then the idea just fizzles because Abigail my magical sloth gazes her deadly sloth like gaze on the idea. Ha!

So..help me out here? Not make me feel so lonely with my weird YouTube obsession? Do you have any YouTube weirdness?

    1. Hi Dean! Yes, I’m very familiar with bullet journalling because..ahem..one of my YouTube watching obsessions (well not really an obsession, but I could just click and watch, click and watch..video after video on it).

And thanks for the link! I will NOT be clicking on it now because it’s 12 midnight here and I dread to think what will happen if I do! hehe. I’ll definitely check it out tomorrow though!

Also, I requested that you did a post about how you use commonplace journals? Hehe..I’d love to know..and I would love the excuse of going out and getting more notebooks..ahahahaha.

  1. Sorry neither watch too many YouTube videos, nor a stationary enthusiast. But fun to know about this little quirk of yours. So thought I d share mine. I window shop online. You know, check out loads of stuff which I know I never will buy or even want to buy. Sometimes it’s furniture, sometimes it’s clothes but mostly I look at junk jewellery!

    1. My sister loves watching old movies too! I used to love watching history too.. haven’t in the longest time. And… there are also videos where the person actually studies for like however many hours… so it’s like a literal study along with me video. That’s kinda cool too. Lol

  2. Ooh, pens! I love stationery, too. I did exams exactly the way you describe: last-minute cramming, massive info-dump on the test, complete memory-wipe afterward, high marks despite my laziness. But my favourite part of school was the first day, when all the pens and notebooks were fresh and new… πŸ˜‰

  3. Lol Stationery porn πŸ™‚ I bet I could write a stationery parody of Sir Mix-A-Lot “Baby Got Back” and I would call it “Baby Got Stationery Racks”. I do have some notebooks myself but my favourite is a prompt book that I’ve been saving from a couple of birthday’s ago. I really should bust it open when I’m struggling for poetry prompts, there are over 600 writing prompts in it and I should have used it when I was hunting for prompts throughout NanoPoblano (but I’m resourceful, so I made it through all thirty days anyway).

I see pretty notebooks like pretty food – they can be too pretty sometimes to spoil with your handwriting (and therefore you might end up just saving them up indefinitely), just like pretty food can be just too good to eat (although I will eat it anyway!) I used to like writing in journals but I do such large amounts of writing these days that I feel more comfortable being able to type and edit on the computer. I will never forget my fondness for journals though, I have been giving some Moleskine ones for my birthday last year (which I’ve still salted away for special occasions, like maybe if I ever get to go on holiday and can do some writing in them!)

I do have very specific YouTube viewing habits, mostly around watching retro videogames (yay, nostalgia), I like finding ones that I never played in my youth and experiencing them. One of my favourite people to watch is SuperGreatFriend, who is criminally underwatched and really deserves have a far bigger audience. I also watch a guy called Stuart Ashens who reviews lots of odd things, including out of date food, children’s toys and other ‘tat’ that is sent to him. And I just started getting back into Epic Rap Battles of History (I’ve watched all five season previously), I enjoy their brilliant wordplay and would like to compose battle raps myself. I enjoy the mix of battles between real life and fictional people, it is very creative and you see new things in the videos every time you watch them πŸ™‚

    1. I see pretty notebooks like pretty food – they can be too pretty sometimes to spoil with your handwriting – oh me too! and if the notebooks are expensive!

I’m so used to typing things now that when I do have to write – pen on paper, I get cramps in the fingers and my writing gets really bad after a few lines…which is not good!

Your YouTube choices seem pretty interesting, I must remember to check them out, especially the Epic Rab Battles of History..lol.
